{"id":235,"date":"2025-07-09T13:39:17","date_gmt":"2025-07-09T13:39:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/teromy.com\/?p=235"},"modified":"2025-07-09T13:41:16","modified_gmt":"2025-07-09T13:41:16","slug":"database-reorganization-scd-cleanups","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/teromy.com\/index.php\/2025\/07\/09\/database-reorganization-scd-cleanups\/","title":{"rendered":"SCD cleanups and database reorganization"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>One of our clients observed that a production database of SimCorp Dimension environment has grown &#8211; the datafiles of the database grew 40% in a period of 1 year.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Together with the client we decided to utilize SCD clean-up functionalities to cut down not-needed data from the system. We have set them up and were able to utilize them to limit kept data records in some cases even by 40%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following successful data cleanups the client decided to have the overall database size reduced, as the physical database size was not reduced (the datafiles&#8217; size remained the same as removing records from the database do not reduce datafiles&#8217; size automatically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We decided to do a full Oracle DataPump export followed by data import, manually recreating datafiles and by that getting rid of &#8216;wasted&#8217; space. The exercise was carried out during weekend maintenance and resulted in a great result of approx. 37% size decrease of the database. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We followed-up the excerise by setting up cleanup jobs that would regularly delete outdated records from SimCorp Dimension database and prevent database from &#8216;uncontrolled&#8217; growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of our clients observed that a production database of SimCorp Dimension environment has grown &#8211; the datafiles of the database grew 40% in a period of 1 year.
