One of our clients observed that a production database of SimCorp Dimension environment has grown – the datafiles of the database grew 40% in a period of 1 year.

Together with the client we decided to utilize SCD clean-up functionalities to cut down not-needed data from the system. We have set them up and were able to utilize them to limit kept data records in some cases even by 40%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following successful data cleanups the client decided to have the overall database size reduced, as the physical database size was not reduced (the datafiles’ size remained the same as removing records from the database do not reduce datafiles’ size automatically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We decided to do a full Oracle DataPump export followed by data import, manually recreating datafiles and by that getting rid of ‘wasted’ space. The exercise was carried out during weekend maintenance and resulted in a great result of approx. 37% size decrease of the database. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
We followed-up the excerise by setting up cleanup jobs that would regularly delete outdated records from SimCorp Dimension database and prevent database from ‘uncontrolled’ growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
